A Review Of the DIY Tools Website

DIY Tools

The first thing you notice about this site is how much is going on, and how wide the variety of things to buy seems to be. It has no less than four navigation bars, in various forms, across the top of the page, and it still manages to look smart and uncluttered. And yes, you can find mitre saws here too.

Where can I find the website?

The website is found at www.diytools.co.uk.

A Selection of the Best Selling Mitre Saws from DIY Tools

How do I find the mitre saws section of the site?

The ‘Home’ screen has ‘power tools’ at the top of its left aligned ‘Popular categories’ scroll down list. Click on that button and you get another drop down – you want to click the ‘Saws’ button. It’s not worth trying to navigate your way to saws any other way, as there is just so much to buy!

Once you are in the saws section you will see that it goes straight into Mitre Saws.

If you want to go straight there the dedicated URL for this part of the website is www.diytools.co.uk/diy/Main/sc-53-69-saws.

What types and brands of mitre saw do they offer?

They offer every conceivable type of saw and a huge range of different brands too. In fact it’s a great site for choice, featuring Makita, Hitachi, Metabo, Einhell, Mafell, Delta, Ryobi, Sealey, Charnwood and their own brand. Nearly all of these are on the first two pages of the ‘saws’ section.

There are sliding compound mitre saws, sliding compound mitre saws with and without laser guides and sliding cross-cut mitre saws.

In terms of price it ranges from top to bottom – with the Makita Dual Slide Compound saw at £699 and the DIY own tools model available for a very cost effective £79.95.

Are there any buying guides or useful sections of information about mitre saws?

DIY tools organise their product information fairly well. It makes sense and you get a small paragraph visible as you scroll down before finding a larger set of bullet points where you click on the product in which you are interested. It’s better written than many sites, and seems fairly impartial in the way it goes for clarity. Having said that the amount of information on each product does vary – the Makita gets half a page while the Ryobi barely gets two bullet points.

There are no real sources of information for buyers, either on the site or via links pages. They do not explicitly encourage enquiries, but they do have an enquiry form to fill in. However this is aimed mainly at people who want to track their orders.

Anything else I should know about?

There is a clearance section which is split, at least on the sitemap, into relevant categories. Before you buy it is worth checking that your model isn’t also included in a clearance offer. At the time of writing there was a Delta saw on offer at £150 instead of £274. Whereas on other sites the clearance section did not seem to deliver big savings this one seems to do what it says, and a saving of £124 is significant on a mitre saw.

It is well worth going to the ‘sitemap’ button which is top right on the upper navigation bar because this makes what is on offer very clear. Also, and helpfully, every button is clickable so that you can go straight where you need to get to. The range of what’s on offer here is dizzying, and the sitemap is the best way to quickly make sure you haven’t missed anything.

Another interesting and useful cross-referencing feature is the calculators which enable you to search not only by product but by brand and even within certain price parameters. This is under a ‘Price Ranges’ button on the left of the screen when you are in products.

Delivery is mentioned as you go through a purchase as being 2-3 days and, although it’s free if the order is over £100, it is set at £4.95 standard

In conclusion

This is a very professional, well-built and useful site for someone interested in finding the right mitre saw. The range is excellent, it’s easy to navigate and the information provided to buyers is easy to understand, if slightly inconsistent in volume. A small downside is that free delivery only kicks in above £100 but that’s more than offset by what appear to be massive savings in the ‘clearance’ section. Look for your new mitre saw there!
