Why A Mitre Can Make Or Break Your New Kitchen

Getting a new kitchen is a major event for many people. This is especially true if you have had to make do with an old and tired kitchen for some time now. When you know you are finally going to get a brand new one it can be an exciting time.

But although you won’t be able to wait to get the kitchen you want, it is very important not to rush it. It’s also very often the finishing touches that really make a good kitchen into a great one, and a good example of this would be the pelmet and cornice that you often use on the wall cupboards.

The trick of making this look as good as possible is to get the exact right angle you need to butt two sections up together. This is only achievable with a good mitre. Of course if you have a galley style kitchen with wall to wall units on one side on the wall, you won’t need to do any right angle joints. But if you have a break in the units to accommodate a chimney hood you will still need the mitre. This is because you will go along the top and bottom of the units and then do what is known as a return along the side of the units that will be either side of the chimney hood.

You can probably see in this case that making the correct cut would be virtually impossible without a mitre block and saw. If you get the angle even slightly wrong you will end up not being able to make the two pieces of cornice meet perfectly in the corner. This would throw the whole look of your kitchen out completely, which wouldn’t look good at all.

When you think about it there may be other jobs around the home that you can tackle with a mitre block and saw as well. It all depends on how good you are at DIY and how many different jobs you want to do. But if you know you will be putting a new kitchen in fairly soon, this is definitely one job that will require you to have this equipment.

You don’t need to spend too much buying the right saw either. But if you are going to do lots of different jobs you can buy something better if you wish.
